About Name Spinner

Our Mission

Name Spinner was created to make random selection fun, fair, and accessible to everyone. Our mission is to provide a simple yet powerful tool that helps users make unbiased selections for classroom participation, team meetings, and everyday group decisions.

How It Works

Add names to the wheel and spin once to pick a winner. Each spin chooses a winning segment with equal odds (unless you add duplicates or weights), using cryptographically secure randomness from your browser via crypto.getRandomValues. The result is decided before the wheel finishes spinning — the animation shows the outcome, it does not re-roll mid-spin. Motion blur on the wheel labels fades as the wheel slows down, tied to live spin speed rather than a fixed timer.

Optional repeat spin limits let you press spin again while the wheel is still moving — each re-spin picks a new random winner. Set a cap (3 or 5 per round) to prevent re-spinning until someone likes the result, or leave repeat spins off for one spin per round. Winner history and auto-exclude help classrooms spread turns across a week without a paper tally.

The homepage wheel holds up to 50 names per list. Ready-made templates in Manage Names — numbers, letters, classroom games, and more — are sized to fit that limit. Need a longer built-in list? Open a topic guide on the blog; embeds such as the 1–100 number picker can load up to 100 segments.

Guides & Topic Wheels

Beyond the homepage wheel, Name Spinner publishes free guides with built-in spinners for classrooms, school raffles, parties, travel, and everyday decisions. Browse or search the blog to open a topic-specific wheel — some guides load larger built-in lists (for example, numbers 1–100) — then jump to the homepage when you need share links, winner history, or a custom list of up to fifty names.

Shareable Winner Cards

After a spin, you can share a PNG winner card from the result modal — useful for group chats, classroom displays, and giveaway proof. Cards are generated in your browser from the spin result; they are not stored on our servers unless you choose to share them.
